Cook
Compton
Root
Taylor
Ballance
Stokes
Bairstow
Ali
Jordan
Broad
Anderson

I think that's what they will go.

Personally I would have Butler and Woakes instead of Bairstow and Jordan from that squad

Yes, it is a worry. Dennis Compton's 32 year old grandson, with an English father and Rhodesian mother and who has lived here for 19 years, playing for Middlesex for 15 of them, clearly has no connection to English cricket at all.

Both FINN and WOOD are injured OM.

Re: England squad for SA tour
I think Ballance will perform much better back home in Africa with his back foot game.
His fat little legs were not made for facing Boult and Starc on English pitches but he can score quickly if he gets in.

I see a big workload for Anderson and Broad without Finn and Wood to support them.
SA are still a very good side with DeVilliers, Amla , Steyn and Morkel but obviously not as good as when they had Smith & Kallis as well. Hopefully the pitches are SPORTING

Re: England squad for SA tour
I hope they go with Footit. Left arm quick, provides a different angle to Broad and Anderson.

I'd go
Cook
Hales
Ballance
Root
Taylor
Stokes
Buttler
Ali
Broad
Anderson
Footitt

Sorry, Compton for Ballance if Ballance is going to bat 3.

Sven Roeder 4:07 Thu Nov 19

Footit batting below Anderson?
Presume he only has one arm

He's not Chris Martin bad but pretty close.

Bell hasn't been great for a while but when you're taking Ballance instead then something is seriously wrong

Re: England squad for SA tour
He was looking really promising the other Summer - he's definitely got talent. Plus he'll know how to play the pitches down there.

Eerie Descent 10:35 Thu Nov 19
Re: England squad for SA tour
I wouldn't say Ballance has 'talent', as such, he just grinds runs out in the ugliest way I think I've ever seen. When the runs dried up, and it happened quickly, he looked like a fucking number 11 for Wanstead CC.

And he is NOT English.

On The Ball 10:42 Thu Nov 19
Re: England squad for SA tour
He's Rhodesian, which is basically English. The talented motherfucker ;)

Re: England squad for SA tour
At least we've seen the back of the hapless Chris Jordan. Picked as a specialist fielder.

Re: England squad for SA tour
Once Footitt is picked that will solve the 3rd seamer issue*
